I decided I was not suitable for private industry, so I am back with the Government (gov), working again for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), in their Denver Office (do).  This is where I worked from 1987 to 1994 when I was downsized out.  Was just re-employed with them in April.

Great, thanks for the forward.  I'll check out the yahoo group, and I'm sending my money tomorrow - now that I have an address.  Are you going to make it?  I've been pretty fortunate in finding really good airfares this summer for my various travels.  Have you heard back from David?  He hasn't answered my email from yesterday, yet.

Good to hear from you.  Hope you're coming down!

Yea. I wasn't very good at notifying people of my new address (JBPat@attglobal.net) (It wasn't my  doing.  IBM.net sold to attglobal, so the name changed.  They did warn me a year ahead of time so I could notify people, but...)  Anyway - my e-mail from the reunion organiser was infected also.  However, I received a forward of the message from Barry Laves (who has taken the lead to be some kind of BTW/HSEP liason).  I will forward it to you right after this-here message.  He has set up a Yahoo group (2 years ago) for the purpose of getting a "group communication going".  Somehow, I was made a part of the Yahoo group this May.  (Didn't relize it though, and signed up again.  So, I'm on there twice.  You and Carry ought to join.  This would be a good forum.  Check out the fwd from Barry and get back with me.

I have been trying to contact you by email forever!!.  What is going on?  Your addresses changed.  Have you sent in your money?  Carry is going and was thinking about getting everyone together at her house for a barbecue, if we can squeeze in the time.  My new personal email address is kuchynata@yahoo.com - ditch the aol one.  Carry is clselvera@hotmail.com .

Were you able to open the attachment on the reunion email?  Mine was infected with a virus, so I don't even know where to send the money.

Let's get a group communication going on this if we have enough positive responses.  Hope you can make it.

LAST MINUTE ARRIVALS:

I sent my registration in on thursday. I think (hope) it will arrive
at the reunion po box today (30-Jun). I hope any of you who are not
planning on attending will change your minds. Today is the deadline
to register, but I hope some late requests will be honored. If you
haven't registered yet, try to register late. It doesn't hurt to try.

Other last-minute committers: Monica Lund; Carry (Blackwell)
Selvera; Maury Lawson Constien. (I think you just saw a message from
Dave Klingler, that he's coming too).

Let me fess-up now: I recognize many names on the list, but I can
put faces with only about 10% of you. On August 3rd, I don't plan on
pretending to recognize people I don't. - Please don't take offense
with my blank stare. (It's my standard pose, anyway). If any more
of you have pictures you can post, please do so. I'll try to do the
same. It would be helpful to start trying to recognize people now.

Looking forward to a FANTASTIC time.

Jay,

That was pretty cool of you to encourage us late people to go ahead and
send in our cash! I had always planned to come (made flight and hotel
arrangements) but had never taken the time to get a cashier's check or
money order. Well, I will get my cash in the mail today, so hopefully I
won't be too late.

See everyone there!

FYI - Even at age 38, I still have people who refer to me as "Termite".

The funny thing is....I still answer to it!!!!

Can you put my kuchynata address instead of my work address in this group?

I heard from Tony de la Serna yesterday. I think several people from HSEP
are still going to be in Houston like you guys are doing. Maybe we should
work on a little get together somewhere. We can still have quality time
with our crowd, but I wouldn't mind seeing some other hsep'ers.

What do ya'll think?

By the way, I'm back! And Newport was awesome!

Anyway, Thanks I would love to be part of this fabulous group ---- if I can still get in.

Hi Mon!  It'll be good to see as many people as we can, huh?  You know what's been fun?  Sharing all of this with Amanda, my 16 year old.  Now she knows what she can look forward to in 20 years.

Greetings:

Yesterday I checked on availability of beach houses associated with
the site: http://www.wolvertonrealty.com/rental.htm

They generally rent these by the week, and will only rent them for a
weekend "at the last minute"(the Sunday before). I asked which ones
were still available (beachfront, or nearly) and she told me of a
couple (links below). The "Sea Godess" is kind of on the high-end,
but looks like it would accomodate us real well. On the other hand,
maybe we want to upsize one step further to the "Jackson House", and
invite others coming in from out-of-town to join us in sharing this
house. We could then have other "locals" up for an afternoon or
something. (Is this getting too complicated.)

http://www.wolvertonrealty.com/sea_goddess.htm
sea godess is almost at the end of Galveston Island.

http://www.wolvertonrealty.com/jackson_house.htm
Jackson house is about in the middle of the island

Use "Mapquest" to show location and arial photo (by providing it the
address listed on the rental's web pages.

I also like the idea of seeing some of the others. Do we need to
reconsider getting a house? Carry has offered to be our local Rep.
We can use my credit card.

I just talked to the realtors. They said we could send in a deposit
(1/2 rent) before the sunday before, to ensure that we are first on
the list, once a house (we would have to decide on one ahead of time)
becomes available for weekend rent. Of course, if it gets rented for
the week, we would lose the house (but we would get the deposit back).

Here are some others that are still available:

http://www.wolvertonrealty.com/the_mariner1.htm
http://www.wolvertonrealty.com/moon_tide.htm
http://www.wolvertonrealty.com/pescado.htm
http://www.wolvertonrealty.com/summerhouse.htm
http://www.wolvertonrealty.com/thelookout.htm

David- still need to know if Pam is coming.

I still vote for the Sea Goddess.  But, I have dibs on a queen size bed (I'll accept company.....I just don't want a bunk bed)

Let's take a vote now, so that Jay can get in his credit card.  Thanks Jay!  You're a sweetie.

What do you need me to do on my end?

Subject: [beersinthecar] Who's invited?

Hey -

with respect to wanting to see other people, I ran into Berry (Laves)
on-line. Told him about us planning a mini-reunion. He was very
interested in joining in. Is now the time to open this up to anybody-
and-everybody. I would like to see Berry and everyone else.

Monica - re Twin Knights:

It Is nice. Looks kinda new. Honestly though, I would really like
to be close to some wave-and-beach action. For the Twin Knights,
we'ld need a boat (Gotta boat?). It does accomodate alot of people,
and the price is low.

I still want beach-front.

Jay

PS: Now its official: This is gonna be singles weekend. I think
its great that no one will have their spouses there....thats perfect
for a reunion like this!! - just like old times.

I haven't looked at any of them either. I'll go with whatever.

I'll ask all of you the same question I asked Jay yesterday. Should
we post to the hsep-alumni group to invite them to a get together,
wherever we end up staying?

As far as others staying with us, that would help reduce the cost for
all of us (which I would stuff the ballot box for that reason alone),
and it would make that decision easier for the ones who are coming to
town anyway. Again, we could post the invite on the hsep-alumni, but
mainly open the invite to the people who are flying in (then if
there's room, others).

Y'all tell me what you think. Why haven't we heard from Maury??

Subject: [beersinthecar] good idea

I too like the idea of inviting all who are interested. I also think
it's a good idea to give priority to out-of-towners. That would
provide flexibility with respect to filling the house to maximum
efficiency (without overbooking).

Monica, when I chatted with Berry, he offered to post an invite on
the HSEP-alumni site. So far, I've heard no negative comments
related to the open-invitation concept. If we go that way, we will
need verbal commitments by the 25th (as we will be financially
committed on Sunday, the 29th). If anyone has reservations about
posting an invitation on the HSEP-alum site, express them NOW.
Monica, will you post to the HSEP-alum site (21st noonish) if we
don't here any dissenting opinions for that idea by then. I think it
is safe to say that this house will probably not be "family-friendly"
(except for your near-adult daughters, Carry), and if we make
a "public announcement", that should be made clear. I, for one, will
not be regulating my behavior. (period).

I will try to use the "Poll" feature of this site to help us choose a
house. Send nominations to this site (if you wish), and I'll set up
a poll (limited to the six of us) for a Sunday (22nd) vote. I'll
start this process by listing Sea Goddess and Jackson House.

Who do we THINK is coming into town (and who is in town) that will be
interested in sharing accommodations? So far:

Monica
Carry
Maury
David
Jay
Arnold – I'm committing you. You better respond.

I think Berry would be interested in joining (although, he's an in-
towner) – Also, I'm sending him an invite to this site.

Who else do we know is coming to town, and might be interested in
joining us? Monica, you mentioned Tony de la Serna, I think. Who
else? Carry, who's in-town who could be interested?

Peace,
J

I was not that close with anybody else other than you guys/gals ... although
don't mind anyone else coming, I would not want to over-crowd the house for
"over-nighters"... during the day, the more-the-merrier. I would vote for
keeping the over-nighters to some comfortable reasonable limit ( whatever
the house we pick can comfortably accomodate ) regardless of who they are.

Hey, what can I say, I am spoiled now ... I don't want to sleep on the floor
... lol

So far:

Monica
Carry
Maury
David
Jay
Arnold - I'm committing you. You better respond.

I think Berry would be interested in joining (although, he's an in-
towner) - Also, I'm sending him an invite to this site.

Who else do we know is coming to town, and might be interested in
joining us? Monica, you mentioned Tony de la Serna, I think. Who
else? Carry, who's in-town who could be interested?

Peace,
J

Yes, Tony is coming in. I have asked him, although he
had already made reservations at the Holiday Inn
downtown. He gets in on Thursday, so he could still
stay down there Thurs and then come to the beach.

The only other person I know about (out-of-towner) is
Ruth Smith. I can have Tony extend the invitation to
her as well, if you want.

I agree about being comfortable. Most of those places
sleep 8 at the minimum, we'll just have to double up.
Minds out of the gutter people. I think having it be
the daytime hangout is a great idea. I also think we
should plan a barbecue or something for Saturday
night. The time is now for objections.

I'M GETTING SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU GUYS!
Monica

Ramiro's email is "garzanet@jump.net"

Jay, how do you add him to this group? Is there a way for him to "catch-up"
on the past group emails?

He and his brother Adrian will probably be "in" if they know about it and we
have the room.

Good to hear from you David. Just let us know and we will be there. Go
ahead and forward the thread to me - I would like to see it. Hope
everything is going well with Pam and you. I know Ayman will be on vacation
in Colorado during the 3rd of August, he was not planning on attending
anyway.

later,

Ramiro,

I just now figured out that you and Adrian were not on the email
group list. Do you want to be on it? Do you want me to forward the entire
thread to you? ( there are alot of them ) The plan is to rent a beach
house. Do you and Adrian want to participate? Call or email me.

Okay, I'm going to pick up the ball and post on the hsep-alumni site.

How about if we invite people out for a cookout on Saturday night,
keep the invitation open for daytime visits and invite out-of-town
people to stay over. Tony has committed to staying with us. That
puts the number at five for certain. (You being the 5th, right
Carry?) Maury will only be there Saturday, if she's still coming.
So that's 6 for Saturday.

Jay - If we don't get the place we want, can't we transfer the
deposit to a place that's available that weekend. That way we'd be
assured of a house.

Also, I thought I'd go to Sam's here in Austin before I came down to
get non-perishables, then, if I can get Friday off, I thought I'd go
down early and get perishable stuff. That way, we'll just have food
and drink at the house for those of us staying, and the beginnings
for the cookout stuff.

We'll work out transportation for everyone from airports, etc. when
it gets closer. Carry - do you work that day?

Write back asap, so we can get the info out there asap.
Monica

Yea. limiting the over-nighters to the published
house capacity is definitely a good idea (and may be a
landlord requirement also)

Hi guies and gals,

Yep, this is Barry Laves, and I'm still single with no children that
I know of and a house with 2 dogs. I have become an artist want-2-be
with a 1200 sqr ft shop on the back of my house in the Houston
Heights.

During the day, I work for Halliburton as an IT project manager; the
title does not describe the job at all!

I still do lots of outdoors activities and take pic's just like some
of us did in the photography club.

Would we want to invite any of the old guies that are still alive;
Like stockwell, spikerman, or others to attend one of the evenings ?

Best rgds,
Barry the Bear, AKA Bus Driver

Sure Barry. Good idea. They could be invited for the
saturday cookout. Contact them if you have contact
info.

Remember: The show might not be suitable for mature
audiences.

Hey Barry,

Good to hear from you. Are you still playing the guitar? We are almost
neighbors - I live in Lindale Park off of Irvington. How long have you been
in the Heights? Maybe we can get together for a beer or two.

later,
Ramiro

I've also been talking with Tony and he's very much interested in at least stopping by.  I'm sure he'll pitch in for at least a day's fee.  He also mentioned wanting to pop in on other mini-reunions. That's why I'm not sure if he'll commit to the whole weekend, but it would appear favorable.  Let's email him and see what he says.  serna@lucent.com

I agree that this may not be entirely appropriate for my innocent babies.  But I would still love to bring them up for a little while, just so they can meet all of you.  Then I'll bring them back home to their dad.  I definitely want to spend more time with all of you, but I understand if there's no room for me to stay over, since I'm one of the in-towners.    sob  :-(
But, you can still count on me to contribute to the cost.

Jay, I haven't heard from anyone else that still lives in Houston.  Ya'll were my main friends in school and all of you live away from Houston now.

That's why I asked you, Carry. So will you be staying
with us the whole weekend or just part?

Bring the kids down during "open house" time, I'd just
say they shouldn't be there for evening activities,
don't y'all think?

I wasn't aware of other "mini-reunions", but maybe
when I post to the hsep-alumni site, we'll all fold
into one great big mini-reunion! Ha! :o)

Still can't wait. Carry - I'll try to call you this
weekend.

Monica

Subject: HSEP: Mini reunion set!

Hello everyone! Monica here. Hope everyone is well and happy.

A few of us are putting together an informal get together the weekend
of Aug. 3,4,5. We plan on renting a house down at the beach in
Galveston and having an "open-house" during the day where people can
come and go as they please. Children are welcome during the day, but
we would have to exclude them from any evening get-togethers. Keep
in mind, the individuals staying at the beach house are going to be
there without their spouses and/or children.

THEN, we thought we'd extend an invitation to all the '81 graduates
for a cookout at the house on Saturday night.

We are still in planning stages, and will need a definite head count
for the cookout by Friday, July 29th. If you know of hsep'ers who
are not on line, please extend the invitation to them as well. We
would obviously need a small contribution for the food, and suggest
bringing your beverages of choice.

Further, we'd like to extend an invitation to those of you who are
coming in from out of town to stay at the beach house, room
permitting, of course. We would all share the cost, and currently,
we have (I think) five committed for Friday night and six committed
for Saturday. The smallest places we've found have slept 8 and some
have gone up to 20. The deadline for an rsvp on this part of the
invite is July 25.

Please let us know as soon as possible by posting to this message
board. Hope we see you in two weeks!
Monica Lund

I've just posted to the hsep group site, in case you

OK Mon.  I'm in for the entire weekend, just tell me how much.  Of course, I'll be in and out with the kids, but that's no big deal.  I still love you even though you sound grouchy.  Call me tonight, but late.  I haven't talked to you in a while.  We have some catching up to do.  I want to hear about everything that's been going on with you.

Okay! I'm getting ready to leave for the day.

Jay - I'm calling you this weekend. This got too complicated with
all the posting back and forth. I'm blonde, okay. I got to where I
couldn't keep track of where I was, email, yahoogroups, hsep or
beersinthecar, aarrgghh! Great name by the way. Appropriate.

Jonathan Branch has signed on to stayover at the beach house. He's
ready to send $$ now!

Out-of towners take priority Barry, no offense, and we'll have to
watch the realtors rules. We don't want to lose the deposit or get
evicted before the weekend is over. So, hold off on bringing the
sleeping bag. we'll know more the closer it gets.

I did have a thought as to looking for inexpensive accomodations for
those who shouldn't drive home, in case we don't have the room. Any
thoughts?

Carry-I'm calling you tonight. Don't be surprised if I scream for a
moment or two.

Thirteen days to go and counting. Have a great weekend everyone!
Monica

I'm starting a notebook, y'all. To keep track of all this crap!
Who's saying what, where, when and how. All I know for sure is
David's doing the tunes! Yeah!

Everyone should start going through their old photo albums ( or finding them as in my case ).  It would be fun to scan some while we are there to share them with others.  I will bring my laptop ... I will see if Adrian or Ramiro can arrange a scanner.   But the main thing is to find them and bring them!

You cannot forget Billy Squire "Children of the ...". Maybe the Rocky
Horror Video tape - just for the good old times?

later,

I have converted my personal website to the HSEP Class of 1981 Reunion website.  Rather than do multiple postings here for music and/or photographs, etc... ( Monica is right ... as the excitement builds, the postings are going crazy ), I will collect them and post them to the website at least once daily.

I will also post the entire [beersinthecar] thread so that hopefully makes some kind of sense.

The music list has been started and I will start posting photos as soon as I start receiving some.

If you have photos online somewhere, you can just email me the URL instead of the actual photos and save some time/bandwidth.

The website URL is:    http://www.klingler.cc

You can email music suggestions to:      dave@klingler.cc

Memories and stories ( .txt or .doc files ) to the same email address.

Adrian/Ramiro:  If either of you guys has time to help me with this, let me know and I will give you the password to the website.

Photos ??? We have to remember what we looked like 20 years ago?
AUHHHHHHHHHHHHH. OK, I will try to unearth.

FYI... I leave for New York Sunday and am gone all week. Ugh.
My email access will be slow, close to the speed of my brain :-)

Monica, Thank you Thank you.......for taking control and organizing this
chaos.
Let me know when I need to send $$$. My current plan is to leave Dallas
early EARLY Saturday AM, if I can figure it out I will try to come down
Friday evening. It's Cole's 2nd day of school and I might lose my Mommy
license if I'm not around to pick him up.

David, More music -- Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin (did I spell that
right), remember Billy Thorpe (Children of the Sun) oooooooohh my.
from the other side of the music dial: Jimmy Buffet, Little Feat.

Have a great weekend!
